Sports today, and now confirmed by OrlandoMagic.com's own John Denton, the Orlando Magic signed free agent swingman Quentin Richardson today. The deal is reported to be for more than 2 years, and worth the rest of the mid-level exception, $2.6M a year or so.

Denton reports that the Magic made the same offer to Barnes before beginning discussions with Richardson. Once Barnes turned it down, stating he wanted more money, the team moved on. Whether the Magic plan on starting Q at SF with Pietrus as his backup, start Pietrus with Q off the bench, or how starting lineup will work remains to be seen.

All in all, while Q-Rich is a slight defensive downgrade from Barnes, he is an upgrade when it comes to offense. Richardson averaged 8.9 points and 4.9 rebounds per game starting at small forward last season for Miami.
